Oyo State Government prepared a masterplan for the city of Ibadan, comprising its 11 Local Government Areas (LGAs). The area covered by the masterplan extends from Igbokandi in the north-west to Oguro in the north-east, Araromi in the south-east to Ogunmakin in the south-west. The rivers Osun and Ogun form the western and eastern boundaries to the masterplan, respectively.

The strategic masterplan, covering an area just under 315,000 hectares, provides a vision for the future of Ibadan to the year 2036. It is a comprehensive, sustainable and implementable framework for urban development, taking the form of a spatial plan supported by policies identifying not only development sites but also the quantum of growth for different land uses to meet future needs.

The masterplan is also an important tool for achieving Oyo State’s vision for Ibadan, which is a “…re-positioning [of] Ibadan city as a competitive, open and socio-economically inclusive and equitable city in the sub region.”

The Masterplan was developed over several stages and is structured on the findings identified in the Ibadan City Masterplan Diagnostics Report. The preparation of the Masterplan report has involved a wide range of stakeholders, who have contributed significant amounts of time and local knowledge to support the Consultant in putting together the document. The input of all stakeholders has been invaluable in formulating and agreeing a way forward for the future of Ibadan.
