Oyo State Government prepared a masterplan for the city of Ibadan, comprising its 11 Local Government Areas (LGAs) . The strategic masterplan, covers an area of just under 315,000 hectares and provides a 20 year vision for the future of Ibadan to the year 2036. It is a comprehensive, sustainable and implementable framework for urban development, taking the form of a spatial plan supported by policies identifying not only development sites but also the quantum of growth for different land uses to meet future needs. The masterplan is also an important tool for achieving Oyo State’s vision for Ibadan, which is a
“re-positioning [of] Ibadan city as a competitive, open and socio-economically inclusive and equitable city in the sub-region.”
One of the components of the Ibadan City Masterplan is the preparation of Detailed Urban Plans (DUPs). These plans are intended as implementable strategies with a range of short, medium and long term projects, and include the following priority areas:
- Flood Prone Areas
- Circular Road
- Core Area
The preparation of the masterplan and the Detailed Urban Plans has involved a wide range of stakeholders, who have contributed significant amounts of time and local knowledge to support the Consultant. The input of all stakeholders has been invaluable in agreeing a way forward for the future of Ibadan.
Detailed Urban Plans were selected on the basis of the need to provide detailed guidance on Oyo State's identified priority areas for implementation of the masterplan.
